Son charme et sa voix seduisent rapidement le public. en 1958, son tube Scoubidou le propulse au sommet des charts. de 1959 a 1962, Distel enchaine les succes. Il remporte le Grand Prix de l'Academie Charles Cros en 1959, chante avec Maurice Chevalier, compose pour le grand ecran et devient une icne de la chanson
